Malta 1976

The Mediterranean island of Malta gets its name from the Greek word for honey, meli. A unique subspecies of bees live on the island, resulting in delicious, abundant honey. The bee & honeycomb are displayed on the 1976 Maltese coin. With scalloped edges and dolphin detail, the design embodies the island with key elements of land and sea.
