Built in 1885 by the founder of Dr. Pepper, Wade Morrison, this stunning home stands three stories high in the heart of Waco, TX. In more recent years, this house was owned by Christian rock singer, David Crowder. If only the walls could talk; we bet they’d have some great tales to tell.
From the street, you’ll see a well-kept home, restored, refinished, and repainted but still representative of its roots, given that the foundation of this home was built in 1885. You’ll see a well-landscaped yard, porch swings, and a brick wall behind which we had the luxury of exploring. Who knew that in Waco, Texas, this historic home was hiding an oasis of lush grass, chaise lounge chairs, and a lap pool prime for cooling off in the summer heat? And exploring the backyard is only scratching the surface of why the Dr. Pepper House was the ideal location for our Spring shoot and the dream stay for your next weekend getaway.
Walking into the Dr. Pepper House feels like you’ve been given private access to the set of an Architectural Digest photo shoot. Each room has an eclectic mix of old and new, from velvet wallpaper to antique mirrors to the most amazing, woven “hand” chair we’ve ever had the privilege of lounging on.
Boasting six bedrooms, a dining room fit for a feast, and a kitchen equipped to cook one, not a detail was spared in the renovation of this home. With a formal dining room, two living areas, and backyard access, the first floor is where we gathered and gabbed from coffee in the morning to cocktails as the shoot came to a close.
Interior design aside, this home was the most unexpected and delightful getaway. The Dr. Pepper House was the perfect serene backdrop amidst the bustle of our photoshoot, and we celebrated our campaign by sipping on poolside spritzes complemented by a cabana charcuterie. As the sun sank below the brick walls surrounding this little slice of paradise, we shuffled back indoors, watching as the house shifted from open, bright, and airy to a moody late-night hangout complete with piano playing and full glasses of wine.
Needless to say, we were enchanted by the charm of the Dr. Pepper House, sitting just up the road from downtown Waco. For any who plan to pass through, we’d highly suggest stopping and staying a while. Go ahead, book your stay. And keep reading for our recs of the best things to do in Waco!
